Wuyi Mountain Da Hong Pao

This Da Hong Pao is a third-generation tea grafted from the original mother tree. The key to Wuyi rock tea lies in its roasting process, as the degree of roasting directly affects the tea's aroma.

After enjoying numerous infusions, I find that this tea meets the Da Hong Pao standard, with a delightful fragrance that fills the mouth with the unique rock tea aroma and hints of fruitwood. The layers of scent are distinct, with different flavors experienced from the moment it enters the mouth to the swallow, leaving a long-lasting presence. The tea is smooth, with a subtle sweetness.

I rate this tea 3 out of 5 because, despite its abundant aroma, the aftertaste is slightly astringent, and the sweetness could be enhanced. Although this sensation is not very pronounced, as someone from a family with a long tradition of tea cultivation, I feel this tea does not reach the highest level. Nevertheless, as a daily drinker, it impresses when shared with friends, primarily due to its strong aroma, positioning it as a mid-to-high quality tea. If you are looking for a higher-grade oolong (Da Hong Pao), this tea is a good choice.

Storage of Da Hong Pao

  • Avoid Light: Keep it out of direct sunlight, storing it in a dry, cool place to preserve its aroma.

Brewing Method

  • Choice of Utensils: It is recommended to use a gaiwan or Yixing teapot to retain the tea’s fragrance and stabilize temperature.

  • Water Temperature: Use boiling water at 100°C to fully release the aroma and flavor.

Consistent Quality, but Lacks Novelty

The quality of this Da Hong Pao is stable, and the brewed tea is always rich. Although it’s a classic tea, I feel it lacks some novelty and variety. For tea lovers who enjoy exploring new flavors, it might come off as a bit monotonous.

Great for Tea Ceremony, Interesting Brewing Process

This Da Hong Pao is perfect for a tea ceremony experience, making the brewing process feel very ceremonial. The color and aroma of the tea are delightful, enhancing the anticipation of each steep. However, it requires some skill in brewing, so beginners may need a bit of practice.

Suitable for Various Occasions, a Timeless Classic

Da Hong Pao is a tea suitable for all occasions, whether for everyday drinking or entertaining guests. While it doesn’t have any particularly standout flavors, as a classic tea, it’s always a safe choice. Definitely worth keeping on hand in your tea cabinet.

Charming Aroma, Pairs Well with Food

This Da Hong Pao has an enchanting aroma, and the brewed tea is dark and robust. It pairs wonderfully with various Chinese snacks. However, the flavor is quite strong, which may be too heavy for those who prefer lighter teas.

Rich Flavor, but Price is a Bit High

Da Hong Pao has a rich flavor with a unique rock essence and floral notes, leaving a sweet aftertaste. However, the price is relatively high. While the quality is good, it may feel a bit extravagant for everyday drinking. It’s great for special occasions or as a gift.
